BENNINGTON, NH: Sadly, our mother Drusilla J. Cox (Dru) of Bennington, NH passed away May 30, 2023 at the age of 92. After a short stay at the Hillsboro House Nursing Home, she died peacefully with her children and grandson by her side.
Born November 19, 1930 in Concord, NH to Doris I. (Pritchard) Bean and John Everett Bean, she was raised in Contoocook, NH. In 1949 she graduated from Hopkinton High School, and in 1950, she attended Concord Commercial College, graduating from the secretarial program. For 25 years, she worked at New Hampshire Ball Bearing. Upon retiring at 62, she earned her LNA license, and later became a Hospice volunteer. Working into her mid-eighties, she was one of the Supervisors of the Check List in Bennington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Norton Cox, brothers, John (Jack) Bean and Robert Bean and her son’s partner ,Melissa Cross.
She is survived by her son, Joseph (Jay) Cox of Peterborough, NH, and daughters, Judith E. Cox of Peterborough, NH, Sandra Cox Helgeson (Terry) of Leesville, LA, Martha A. Cox (Doug Kenney) of Venice, FL, grandsons, Zachary Bennett of Camden ME, Christopher and Richard Helgeson of Leeville, LA and Joseph Kenney of Venice, FL and great-granddaughters, Charlie Jade Helgeson and Raine Grace Bennett.
Dru was an Old New Englander and took pride in her independence, living alone until recently with the help of her family and neighbors. Before Covid, she made many wonderful friends in Hillsboro Senior Group and enjoyed their outings. She was a voracious reader, at one point reading the most books in Bennington. Her usual was six to seven books a week. She loved traveling, family, and friends.

Thank you to Hospice, for Nancy Folsom, and Faith Ohnesorge and to the Jaffrey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for taking her in during a blizzard and all for the kindness and love they showed to her. And lastly, thank you to the Hillsboro House Nursing Home for the excellent palliative care they gave her in her final weeks.
Graveside Services for Drusilla J. Cox, 92, of Bennington, NH who passed away May 30, 2023, will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 at 2 pm in the Evergreen Cemetery in Bennington, NH.
