HENNIKER,NH:  Edith Mae (McCray) Butler of Henniker, New Hampshire passed away at home on September 6, 2022.  

Born on April 11, 1945 in Philadelphia PA, she was the daughter of Gertrude and William McCray.  

Edie graduated from Girls’ High School in Philadelphia and went on to receive Bachelors and Masters degrees in English Literature from the University of New Hampshire.

She worked at the Concord Women’s Health Center, Yankee Book Peddler, New England College, and taught English at the University of New Hampshire, UNH Manchester, and NHTI.  Edie was active with the Portsmouth Black Heritage Trail and the Henniker Peace Group. She enjoyed reading, gardening, watching baseball, and walking her dog, Bear.

She leaves behind daughters, Lisa Zimmerman of Windsor, NH, Amelia Parrish of Henniker, NH, grandson, Asa Parrish Lamarre of Henniker, and brother, Evan McCray of East Orange, NJ.  She is predeceased by her longtime partner, Lawrence Parrish, Jr. and her mother, Gertrude McCray.
