Joan Helen Humenanski Grimes, 89, left this world peacefully surrounded by her children on February 19, 2021 in Groveton NH. She was born in Ashley, PA on March 24, 1931 to Helen and Michael Humenanski, and lived most of her adult life in Hillsboro, NH. Upon retirement, she wintered in Florida and summered in NH. She will be remembered as the matriarch of the Grimes Family, always pulling everyone together and giving sage advice.
Joan met her husband, Harold, while they both served in the Air Force in 1949, and they married on October 7, 1950. They brought 11 children into the world and raised them in Hillsboro, NH. Their family today is much larger as you can imagine with 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. And still growing!
Joan was employed by the phone company in Hillsboro for 15 years working as an operator and dispatcher, among other things. She was a member of the Hillsboro American Legion and loved to attend Bingo there on Thursdays. She loved taking trips to the Casino, doing crossword puzzles, going to Flea Markets, keeping up with family on Facebook, and her drives up and down the coast between NH and FL. She looked forward to the annual “Family Weekend” at her daughters’ house on Lake Winnisquam which sometimes had more than 50 in attendance. Her greatest pride was her children and spending time with them.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold of 54 years (2004), sons Mickey (1990) and Kenny (2012), and her daughter, Cathy (2016). She leaves behind sons, Bob Grimes and partner Deb, Hillsboro, NH, John Grimes and wife Linda of North Port, FL, Tom Grimes and wife Lisa of Groveton, NH, Hallie Grimes and wife DeeDee of Hillsboro, NH, daughters, Donna Miller and husband Don of Sanbornton NH, Toni Goss and husband Danny of Rumney, NH, Mary Jo Dansereau and husband Jamie of Westminster VT, Pattie LeBlanc and husband Chris of Bradenton FL, brothers, Don Humenanski of Linden NJ and Ron Humenanski of Beaver, PA and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday Feb 27th at 11 am in St. Mary’s Church, Hillsboro NH.
In lieu of flowers, she would love for you to make a donation to St. Jude’s Hospital as she felt she was blessed with so many healthy children she wanted to help others.
