HENNIKER, NH: Raymond J. “Joe” Gilbert passed away at his home on April 5, 2020. He was born February 4, 1941, the son of Roy Gilbert and Hazel Connor Gilbert. He lived in Henniker his entire life.
He was predeceased by his parents and survived by his wife of 52 years, Allyn Morrill Gilbert, his son, Timothy R. Gilbert (Lori Diaz) of Pecos, Texas and Tim’s sons, Owen and Henry, his son, Aaron J. Gilbert (Marla Miller) of Boscawen, NH, a brother, Peter J. Gilbert (Marie Gilbert) of Henniker, NH and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe graduated from Henniker High School I 1959 and joined the NH Army National. He began his professional, and lifelong career, with Sprague Electric/Allegro Microsystems in 1962, retiring in 2002. Joe believed strongly in giving back to his hometown of Henniker and served as a member of the Henniker Fire Department for 48 years, in many capacities including Fire Warden and Deputy Chief.
His activities included motorcycling, dirt biking, being a member of the Henniker Flying Club and obtaining his private pilot’ s license and snowmobiling in the North Country and Canada with family and friends. The fun really began with his first motor home in 1985 and a family trip to Disney. By the time Joe retired in 2002, the trip of a lifetime “North to Alaska” was well planned and ready to implement. What a great summer! He took trips west to Wyoming and Idaho to see the boys (and lots of interesting spots in between) and fun trips to the Canadian Maritimes. He enjoyed wintering in Florida at River Bend Motor Coach Resort in LaBelle, Florida creating more memories and great friends.
