HOPKINTON, NH:  Ellen Isabelle Johnson Payne of Hopkinton, died Wednesday November 1, 2017 in Lebanon, NH. 

She was born on November 22, 1924, in Deep River, Connecticut., to Pontus and Hannah Johnson. 

Educated at the University of Connecticut at Storrs, she graduated with a BA in mathematics. The majority of her working career was spent at General Electric in Pittsfield, Massachusetts., where she enjoyed hiking, skiing, and traveling. 

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, N. Douglas Payne, her children, Cynthia Payne of Brooklyn, NY, John Payne of Manhattan, Beach, CA, Dr. Christine Payne of Middlesex, VT and Jeffrey Payne of Salem, their spouses, Andrew Mandel, Leslie Payne, Dr. Harlow Ballard, and Deborah Payne, and her grandchildren, Eli Mandel, Emma Mandel, Jack Payne, Isabelle Ballard, Cynthea Ballard, Toren Ballard and Nicholas Payne. 

To honor her memory, the family asked that donations be made to the Girl Scouts or the First Congregation Church of Hopkinton. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2 pm at the First Congregational Church, in Hopkinton, NH.
