HILLSBORO, NH: Ethel V. (Glidden) Cleveland 91, of Hillsboro, NH died peacefully on Tuesday Aug 22, 2017 at Maplewood Center in Amesbury, MA., surrounded by her loving family.
Ethel was born Sept 21, 1925 in Patten, ME, the daughter of the late Harold L. and Ella Mae (Harrington) Glidden. Ethel married Reginald Cleveland, Sr. (deceased 2000) in 1945 and moved to Antrim, later residing in Deering and Hillsboro where they lived and raised their family for over 50 years. Ethel was an active participant in the United Methodist Church of Hillsboro and in the local community where she was a friend to many.
With a loving heart and a giving spirit, Ethel’s greatest passion and pleasure was spending time with her family. As an aspiring artist she enjoyed sewing, quilting, painting and sharing her talents with others, especially her grandchildren. She was a great cook and made the best donuts ever. She was an active member of the Home Extension Group and Eastern Star, as well as being involved in various church groups. As a professional woman, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for Sylvania in Hillsboro, NH for many years and at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center.
She is survived by her son, Reginald A. Cleveland Jr. (Kate) of Deering, NH, and daughters Joanne M. Maki (Jorma) of Amesbury, MA, and Cheryl A. Hempen (Dale) of Durham, NH, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is also predeceased by her siblings Minnie Carswell, Eleanor Woodard, Elwood Glidden, Paul Glidden and Harold “Junior” Glidden.
Calling hours will be held Saturday Sept 16, 2017 from 1 pm to 2 pm at the United Methodist Church, Hillsboro, NH, followed directly by a memorial service at 2 pm. Following the service there will be a reception at the church.
A private burial service will follow in Butler Yard Cemetery, Deering, NH.
